Our Services

Bridgeport Utilities provides safe, reliable water, wastewater, and natural gas services to homes and businesses throughout our community.

Water

Bridgeport Utilities operates a water treatment plant situated on the Tennessee River, which serves as the primary source of raw water for the community. The plant draws directly from the river and processes it to meet all state and federal drinking water standards before delivering it to homes, businesses, and local industry.

In addition to the river supply, the system is supplemented by a natural spring source during periods of high demand. The distribution system includes two elevated storage tanks plus a one million gallon Clearwell at the plant, ensuring a reliable reserve is always available.

Sewer & Wastewater

Wastewater collected from the community is treated through a two-stage lagoon system — a natural, land-based treatment method that uses the combined forces of physical settling, biological activity, and chemical processes to clean the water before it is safely returned to the environment.

The first lagoon is mechanically aerated and divided by a floating curtain to maximize treatment efficiency. Wastewater then flows into a second lagoon — the polishing pond — where remaining nutrients and organisms are reduced to safe levels before discharge. Lift stations move wastewater through the system and regular sampling ensures ongoing environmental compliance.

Natural Gas

Bridgeport Utilities distributes natural gas throughout the service area to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Natural gas is one of the most efficient and cost-effective energy sources for heating your home, water heater, stove, and other appliances.

If you smell gas or suspect a leak, leave the area immediately and do not operate any switches, appliances, or open flames. Call our office or 911 from a safe location. Do not re-enter until cleared by our crew. For new service or connection questions, contact us during regular business hours.

Gas emergencies: Call (256) 495-2471 immediately — or dial 911 if there is immediate danger. Before any digging, call Alabama One Call at 1-800-292-8525.
